Quick getaway to Springfield

We decided we wanted to have a little family adventure for spring break even though traveling far was still not in the cards.  We explored Springfield & hit up the Abraham Lincoln Museum, home, tomb, and other historical sites. Did you know the infamous Donner Party left from Springfield? There was also a race riot in 1908 that led to the founding the NAACP.  We drank bougie coffee, ate too much, made tiktoks, and just had time away from the everyday.
It was a chance to explore close to home and just be together.

It’s one of the prayers of my mama heart: that they will always cherish each other & encourage one another’s unique gifts to the world.

Lincoln's tomb.
We told the kids about the tradition of rubbing Lincoln's nose for good luck - we did it in college at U of I every time before a final in Lincoln Hall.  Apparently it comes from old folk tales of the nose of successful person being lucky.  We participated in the tradition with some hand sanitizer after to make it 2021 approved.
Learning about important history.

The Lincoln home.

Local coffee is always on the agenda. This time it was Custom Cup. Garden Gnome Lavender latte with oat milk- HIGHLY recommend!

We also were told we had to try the "Horseshoe" - a Springfield dish that is basically a heart attack on a plate!

One of the upsides of the pandemic is you get the pool completely to yourself!! Each day we could sign up for a timeslot and have the pool all to ourselves! When your lollipop makes an R“Play mini golf” they said.
“It will be fun!” they said.
3/4 kids in tears. You have to keep laughing because expectations < reality of family outings. They recovered but keeping it 100! Anyone else?
Mini vacations are for getting your own coke and living your best life.

On of my favorite things about traveling ANYWHERE is to find unique murals or outdoor spaces that are colorful! Colors bring me LIFE!!
It was a quick adventure but so grateful for family time exploring, learning, & laughing together. Now to deal with the mounds of laundry.
Happy Spring Break Friends,
