blast from the past

During our week sans Papa we hung out at Bibi's house and made a jaunt over to stay at a friend's house for a couple days.  One morning we headed over to a local roller skating rink that I used to frequent as a middle schooler.  High school was only slight less torturous than middle school so I would not say all the memories were fond ones but it was fun to return to a place that looks pretty much the same as it did 20 years ago. Luckily, there were no couple skate scrambles or tripping over my skates in front of "the guy."  I even suppressed my desire to tight roll my jeans and wear an IOU with a matching scrunchie.
Ahh, roller skating.

It also was quite a life lesson when Anni repeatedly spilled and was in tears for the first 30 minutes.  "I hate roller skating!" "I want to go home!" Well, then.
We talked about how the only way to get better at things is to try and not give up just because something is hard. A good reminder for me these days too.
Who knew roller skating with friends could provide an opportunity to teach about running so as to get the prize?
Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. 1 Corin 9:24

After another 30 minutes of trying (and using this awesome training thing that resembles a walker) she went out again on her own and was overheard saying "Mama, now I am the best at roller skating ever!"
Ok, so next life lesson might be on humility.
